Southend City FC Women ahead of their first season

On Sunday, Southend City FC Women’s Team pitched up against Runwell Sports Ladies FC in what was only their second ever friendly game.

Shortly before kick-off, striker and Women’s Team captain, Mel Dayment spoke to Southend City Radio about what it has been like getting a new squad of players together for the women’s team and how Southend City FC has already become a friendly and welcoming place for new players. A true team captain, Mel also talked about how she hopes to get the best out of all their players.

As promised, Mel and the rest of the team treated the crowds to some good spells of attacking play.

Despite it only being City’s second game as team, they displayed a strong mentality and although they conceded early, Southend spent the majority of the second half on the front foot, scoring a few spectacular goals.

Southend City FC Women’s Team are looking to strengthen their side and would encourage any ladies of all footballing abilities interested in joining a friendly and motivated team to get in touch with the club.

These are exciting times for Southend City FC as a newly formed club ahead of their first full season of professional football. Having already successfully formed a men’s and women’s first team, and with plans for a walking football team, a wheelchair football team and a transgender team too, Southend City FC really is making football in Southend truly accessible for everyone.
