In their second game of the season, Southend City FC hosted Ongar Town at Lakeside Sports Ground.
It was a frustrating game for city as they found it difficult to create chances against an Ongar side that pressed hard for the ball. With some new players joining the starting line up there were some promising signs of good speed and technical ability but movement and communication proved a problem. Despite a penalty save and a late surge that lead to a goal for Southend, the match ended in a 3-1 defeat.
